I took the train on a sunny day
Across the bay
In a city I’d never visited before
The sunlight appeared as the treain emerged from the tunnel
And the outside world gave me glimpses into the lives of those that made their homes here
A dock worker
A truck driver
An apartment building full of mothers, children, and others
Skyscrapers
Seemingly empty, despite it being a Monday
A rainbow house, characterized by its exuberance but also its scars
And a wandering thought to the presumably lone train operator guiding my way
The train entered a tunnel, enclosing itself once again
I came to this city on a whim, for an adventure
Seeking answers for myself, about myself, with myself
Well, maybe I was seeking answers. Or maybe not. That part I still hadn’t figured out yet
I shrugged to myself.
As I had done this entire trip so far, I told myself, “let’s just see what happens”
My journey had led me here to stay with someone who had become one of my closest companions
I appreciated them greatly.
They might not have understood the magnitude of my journey, but they supported me all the same
My journey was taking me to someone else who had quite literally changed the way I viewed the world, and in an incredibly short amount of time
I too appreciated them greatly. More than they could ever know, quite possibly.
Maybe they had some of the answers I was looking for
I thought I’d ask, no matter the response
As me and my fellow travelers emerged from the tunnels once again
The sights had become a little bit more familiar to me
These people that made their homes here were all on a journey just like me,
Despite being rooted in the familiarity of their surroundings
We all had questions. We all sought answers. We were all looking for things, for ourselves, about ourselves, with ourselves
The characters that joined us for our journeys helped guide our couse, ever moving forward towards a destination that was constantly changing
Into the tunnel. Out of the tunnel. Looking inside of ourselves. Looking outside of ourselves
All while hoping to make the train car a little more full
Maybe this city had answers for me after all.
